Leah Main
Leah Main brings decades of leadership and community engagement to her role as a public servant. Since 2009, she has served as a Silverton Councillor, consistently earning the trust of her community through acclamation and election. As a Director for the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) since 2011, she plays a key role in regional governance, addressing infrastructure, environmental policy, and local economic development. The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Board elected her as a Director from 2015 to 2024, where she worked alongside national leaders to advance policies that support rural communities.
Leah immigrated to Canada from the United States in 1967, choosing to settle in the Slocan Valley, where she built a life with her partner and raised her son. Her career path has spanned music, education, and culinary services, always prioritizing opportunities that allowed her to remain rooted in her community.
Her dedication to public service extends beyond elected office. She has played an active role in numerous organizations, including the Slocan Lake Gallery Society, Slocan Lake Stewardship Society, and Rosebery Parklands Development Society, where she served as President for over two decades. Her commitment to environmental sustainability led her to participate in initiatives such as the Slocan Valley Economic Development Commission (Chair, 2012–2019) and the Silverton Creek Water Quality Monitoring Project (2015–2018).
In local government, Leah has focused on collaborative decision-making, rural economic development, environmental stewardship, and public service accessibility. She served as Acting Mayor of Silverton for ten months in 2020–2021 and represents the region on multiple committees, including the West Kootenay Regional Transit Committee, Community Sustainable Living Advisory Committee, and West Kootenay-Boundary Regional Hospital District Board.
Leah’s leadership style prioritizes practical solutions, open communication, and a deep respect for community needs. Whether advocating for improved infrastructure, championing environmental protection, or working to strengthen local governance, she approaches every challenge with determination and experience.
As she seeks to represent the region at a broader level, Leah remains committed to the principles that have guided her throughout her career: strong communities, transparent leadership, and policies that serve the people who live and work in her constituency.
